culture shock

Going abroad to study would lead to embarrassment, but this process that is called ‘culture shock’ is natural and useful to overcome your stress. First, getting used to the British’s gloomy skies might be difficult, for the chilly winter makes students cynical and demoralized. Second, due to the unfamiliar British food and unaccustomed cooking for themselves, they would depend on junk food. It causes damage to your health. Students have to take natural vitamins from fresh fruit and vegetables. Third, since thick clothes would be so uncomfortable to some students who come from warm countries, they may think that the British figure of dress is ridiculous, monotonous and unseemly. Next, it is tiring work to study English steadily, so it leads to missing their familiar language. Also, British regional accents and quick speaking cause misunderstandings, even though they can speak English fluently. Therefore, students have to take responsibility to adapt themselves to new circumstances.

I would like to talk talk about energetic and beutiful city Ulsan. Ulsan is home to the Hyundai Motor Company, also Ulsan is my hometown. It is located in the middle of Asia at the Southeast edge of the Korean Peninsula. As I've already mentioned, my hometown Ulsan has the Hyundai Motor Company, which is the largest factory in the world as a single unit. Ulsan is also home to global chemical companies such as SK, LG, SAMSUNG chemical, as well as 170 other chemical companies. There is Hyundai heavy industry the world's largest shipbuilder. So, ulsan is the richest economy in Korea, and third richest city in the world. For these reasons, Ulsan is called the dynamic city that energy has been overflowing for the last several decades. Ulsan also has a various natural surroundings where people can enjoy the natural scenery. Ulsan is also close to Gyeoung Ju and Busan, Korea's best known tourist areas.

The great summer

People feel frustrated when something is going to be different than what they expect. These days, I'm deeply embarrassed by Vancouver's curious weather. Vancouver's summer temperature broke the record a couple of days ago since recorded for July 30th of 29.4, set in 1965. I had thought that Vancouver's summer is cool without sticky moisture compared with Korean's sticky summer before I suffered severe heat in Vancouver. I couldn't sleep very well for several days. It was nevertheless cool at night. Because my room gets much sunshine in the daytime, the high temperature in my room remains steady at night as well. I've fallen asleep while fanning myself. I've needed a fan to sleep like a dog, but I couldn't get it. Unfortunately, a fan was unavailable in many shops. It sounds ridiculous, but it's true. Many Vancouverites should have been frustrated with this uncommon situation too. Therefore, I've decided to endure the difficult situation without a fan. I will enjoy this rare Vancouver's summer that would be remembered as the great summer.

How to make Chapchae.

Chapchae is one of the most popular noodle dishes in Korea, and also seems to be the one that Westerners like best. The foundation of the dish is the mixture of noodles, soy sauce, garlic, and sesame oil. First, cook the noodles according to package directions. You must follow the directions. I suggest you not to boil too much. Second, heat vegetable (or olive) oil and 1 Tbsp sesame oil, and add onion slices and garlic for about 1 minute. Third, add rest of vegetables and cook for 4-5 minutes, until the vegetables are half-cooked and still a bit crispy. You need to prepare various vegetables for color combination such as broccoli, red peppers, mushrooms. Next, turn heat to low and add cooked noodles, meat (beef), soy sauce, sugar, and the remaining sesame oil. And then, mix to combine and cook for another 2 minutes. It is important that you need to stir constantly. Finally, add salt or more soy sauce if needed. If you need more looking tempting, you need to add sesame seeds. You will have cooked unique and exotic food when you follow this recipe.

Robot catwalk

I really feel uncomfortable when I see like it. I'm even feeling threatened by dramatically improving technology. Showing picture is not Human being. It is a robot that has been developed in Japan. The female humanoid with slightly oversized eyes, a tiny nose and shoulder-length hair boasts 42 motion motors programmed to mimic the movements of models. But, the inventors said that they had made the robot too similar to a real human, it would have been uncanny. Namely, they had been inspired from Japanese manga to make it more friendly with human. Do you think that the robot has manga-character's features? Why they even intent to rob a model of job? You can see the robot's awkward walking in here.

Ulsan vs Vancouver

When I firstly went downtown for looking for BCIT, I thought that is so calm and simple compared with my hometown Ulsan's downtown. What are the differences between two city's downtown? Most clear difference is the noise. For instance, Ulsan's downtown is always noisy and deafening, because many shops and pubs use the big speakers with loud music to lure customers and get people's attention. But, Vancouver's downtown doesn't seem to use outdoor speakers to get attention, and so its downtown is less noisy. Next, Ulsan's downtown is very colorful due to the a lot of unorganized and awkward signboards, althought there is the law to regulate this distractive signboards. However, Vancouver's downtown is never colorful and unorganized. So, It would be monotonous, wheres we can see the natural looking of Vancouver's downtown. Finally, we can find our destination easily in Vancouver's, because this downtown was designed systematically. But, it is difficult to find out certain bars and shops in Ulsan's because of a quick development of the city. Therefore, The downtown of each city has a totally different characteristic which can be attraction or a defect.
